Eircode Privacy

Our website allows you to voluntarily enter an Eircode to search for a location and/or to have it converted to a Loc8 Code. We collect the Eircodes entered or otherwise derived from location information.
Postcodes have been identified as personal information by the Irish Data Commissioner and this is enacted in Communications Regulation (Postal Seervices) Act 2011/2015. Whilst we do not believe Eircode to be the National Postcode described in this Act, we treat it as if it was and, therefore, consider it to be the same as all other personal data identified in this privacy statement. It is, therefore, treated in the same manner for the protection of your privacy as  in accordance with this privacy statement. The location information and address information we derive from an Eircode you may enter is programmatically extracted from the Google Maps database using an API distributed by Google. The address information held by Google is not the same address information used normally with Eircode as Google has not implemented it. Furthermore, your Eircode may not be registered in the Google Database as Google does not update its Eircode database regularly and at the time of this revision such an update has not taken place for 14 months approximately. Queries about related Eircode errors or omissions should be directed to Eircode themselves in the 1st instance or to Google Maps through this utility

Use of Eircode is covered by this Code of Practice  where you can find the following:

  1. an explanation of the background and context of Eircodes in Ireland;
  2. a description of the sources of the Eircode data;
  3. information for you about your right to have incorrect data about you corrected or removed;
  4. information about your right to register valid complaints about Eircode services and contact details necessary to do so
